Founded in 1978 by Robert Clergerie in Romans-sur-Isère, the brand quickly became one of the three great names in French footwear, alongside Charles Jourdan and Stéphane Kélian.
In 1981, he opened his iconic boutique on 5 Rue du Cherche-Midi in Paris, still the brand’s flagship store today. From Tokyo to New York, Clergerie gained international acclaim for its bold, architectural designs and its balance between innovation and timeless elegance.
Robert Clergerie was the first to introduce the Goodyear welt to women’s shoes and to use raffia in luxury shoemaking – innovations that defined an era. He was named “Best Designer of the Year” three times by the Fashion Footwear Association.
Since 2017, David Tourniaire-Beauciel has taken over the creative direction, celebrated for his architectural approach and ability to reinterpret the brand’s heritage with a modern sensibility.
